🍚 How to Cook Whole Jowar
Simple Pressure Cooker Method
1. Clean & Wash
Take the required quantity of Buddha Ratana Sorghum Millet and rinse thoroughly 2–3 times with clean water.
2. Soak
For a softer texture and easier cooking, soak the Jowar in plenty of water for approximately 6–8 hours or overnight.
After soaking, drain and rinse once before cooking.
3. Add Water
Transfer the soaked Jowar to a pressure cooker.
Use approximately 1 part soaked Jowar to 2½–3 parts fresh water.
Example:
1 cup soaked Jowar → 2½–3 cups water
4. Pressure Cook
Close the pressure cooker securely and cook on medium-high heat until the Jowar becomes tender.
Allow approximately 4–5 whistles, depending on the cooker and the desired texture.
5. Natural Pressure Release
Turn off the flame and allow the pressure to release naturally. This allows the grains to finish cooking in the residual heat and steam.
6. Drain & Serve
If there is excess water, drain it. Fluff the cooked Jowar gently and use immediately in your preferred recipe.
👨🍳 Cooking Tip
Jowar is a firm whole grain, so soaking is recommended when cooking the whole grain. Cooking time can vary depending on the age of the grain, soaking duration and pressure cooker. For softer preparations such as porridge or khichdi, additional water and cooking time can be used.
