🍲 How to Cook Buddha Ratana Himalayan Red Small Kidney Beans
Ingredients:
-
1 cup Buddha Ratana Himalayan Red Small Kidney Beans
-
3–4 cups water for cooking
-
Salt, to taste
-
¼ tsp turmeric, optional
Method:
-
Sort & Wash the Beans
Check the beans and remove any stones or unwanted particles. Rinse thoroughly 2–3 times with clean water. -
Soak Thoroughly
Soak the beans in plenty of water for 8–12 hours or overnight. Make sure there is enough water as the beans will expand during soaking. -
Drain & Rinse
Drain the soaking water and rinse the beans once again with fresh water. -
Pressure Cook
Add the soaked beans to a pressure cooker with 3–4 cups fresh water. Add turmeric if desired. -
Cook Until Tender
Pressure cook on medium heat for approximately 5–7 whistles, then allow the pressure to release naturally. Cooking time can vary depending on the age and firmness of the beans and the pressure cooker used. -
Check for Doneness
The beans should be completely tender and easily mashable when pressed. If they remain firm, add a little hot water and pressure cook for another 1–2 whistles. -
Prepare Your Recipe
Once tender, add the beans to your preferred Rajma masala, curry, soup, or stew. -
Serve Hot
Pair with steamed rice, jeera rice, roti, chapati, or your preferred grain.
💡 Cooking Tip
Soaking and thorough cooking are essential for kidney beans. Soak overnight and ensure the beans are completely tender before serving.
For a richer Rajma, allow the cooked beans to simmer gently in the masala so they absorb the flavours and develop a creamy, hearty consistency.
