🍲 How to Cook Buddha Ratana Quinoa

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Buddha Ratana Quinoa

  • 2 cups water

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 tsp ghee or oil, optional

Method:

  1. Rinse Well
Place the quinoa in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse thoroughly under running water for 1–2 minutes. This helps remove its natural outer coating and can improve the final flavour.

  2. Drain
Drain the quinoa well after rinsing.

  3. Cook
Add 1 cup quinoa and 2 cups water to a saucepan. Add salt and ghee or oil if desired.

  4. Bring to a Boil
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium-high heat.

  5. Simmer & Cover
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for approximately 15 minutes, or until the grains are tender and most of the water has been absorbed.

  6. Rest
Turn off the heat and leave covered for another 5 minutes.

  7. Fluff & Serve
Gently fluff the quinoa with a fork and serve warm or allow it to cool for salads and grain bowls.

💡 Cooking Tip

For light, fluffy quinoa, rinse it thoroughly before cooking and avoid excessive stirring while it simmers. If the quinoa is still slightly firm after the water has been absorbed, add a small splash of water, cover, and cook for a few more minutes.

For extra flavour, cook quinoa in vegetable stock or add whole spices such as cumin, cardamom, or a small piece of cinnamon.

Kalanamak is a heritage, short-grain variety grown specifically in the Himalayan Terai. Unlike Basmati, it has a distinct dark tip, a nuttier flavour, and a softer texture. It is naturally aged and minimally processed to preserve its unique nutritional profile.
Yes, Kalanamak is known for having a lower Glycemic Index (GI) compared to many standard white rice varieties. This means it digests slower, helping to prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar levels.
A Geographical Indication (GI) tag ensures that the rice is authentically sourced from its native region (Siddharthnagar and surrounding districts in UP). It guarantees you are getting the genuine heritage grain, not a hybrid grown elsewhere.
Rinse the rice thoroughly and soak it for 20-30 minutes before cooking. Use a water-to-rice ratio of about 2:1. Cook on a low simmer until the water is absorbed, then let it rest covered for 5 minutes for the perfect fluffy texture.
Store the rice in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place. Kept away from moisture and direct sunlight, our Kalanamak rice easily maintains its aroma and quality for up to 12 months.
