🍲 How to Cook Buddha Ratana Little Millet

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Buddha Ratana Little Millet

  • 2–2½ cups water

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 tsp ghee or oil, optional

Method:

  1. Rinse Thoroughly
Wash the Little Millet 2–3 times with clean water to remove surface dust and impurities.

  2. Soak (Optional)
Soak for approximately 20–30 minutes for more even cooking and a softer texture. Drain well before cooking.

  3. Cook the Millet
Add 1 cup Little Millet and approximately 2–2½ cups fresh water to a saucepan. Add salt and ghee or oil if desired.

  4. Bring to a Boil
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium-high heat.

  5. Simmer & Cover
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for approximately 15–20 minutes, or until the millet is tender and the water has been absorbed.

  6. Rest
Turn off the heat and leave covered for approximately 5 minutes.

  7. Fluff & Serve
Gently fluff with a fork and serve warm, or cool before using in salads and grain bowls.

💡 Cooking Tip

For soft and fluffy Little Millet, rinse well and avoid excessive stirring while it cooks. Water absorption can vary slightly depending on the batch and cooking method, so adjust the quantity of water according to your preferred texture.

For khichdi or porridge, use additional water and cook until the millet reaches a soft, creamy consistency.

Kalanamak is a heritage, short-grain variety grown specifically in the Himalayan Terai. Unlike Basmati, it has a distinct dark tip, a nuttier flavour, and a softer texture. It is naturally aged and minimally processed to preserve its unique nutritional profile.
Yes, Kalanamak is known for having a lower Glycemic Index (GI) compared to many standard white rice varieties. This means it digests slower, helping to prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar levels.
A Geographical Indication (GI) tag ensures that the rice is authentically sourced from its native region (Siddharthnagar and surrounding districts in UP). It guarantees you are getting the genuine heritage grain, not a hybrid grown elsewhere.
Rinse the rice thoroughly and soak it for 20-30 minutes before cooking. Use a water-to-rice ratio of about 2:1. Cook on a low simmer until the water is absorbed, then let it rest covered for 5 minutes for the perfect fluffy texture.
Store the rice in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place. Kept away from moisture and direct sunlight, our Kalanamak rice easily maintains its aroma and quality for up to 12 months.
