🫓 How to Make Soft Jowar Roti
Traditional Homemade Method
1. Prepare the Flour
Take 1 cup Buddha Ratana Jowar Atta in a mixing bowl. Add salt according to taste if desired.
2. Add Hot Water
Gradually add hot or very warm water while mixing with a spoon. Adding water gradually helps the flour hydrate properly and makes the dough easier to handle.
3. Prepare the Dough
Once the mixture is cool enough to handle, knead it gently into a soft, smooth and pliable dough. The dough should be soft without being excessively wet.
4. Shape the Roti
Divide the dough into equal portions. Take one portion and gently flatten it using your palms. Pat it into a thin, round roti using a little dry Jowar flour or between sheets of parchment/butter paper if needed.
5. Cook on a Tawa
Carefully place the roti on a hot tawa. Cook until the surface begins to change and small spots appear.
Flip gently and cook the other side. For a traditional roasted finish, place the roti directly over a flame for a few seconds until it puffs or develops light roasted spots.
6. Serve Hot
Remove from the flame and serve immediately with ghee, dal, sabzi, curd, chutney or your favourite accompaniment.
👨🍳 Cooking Tip
Jowar flour is naturally gluten-free, so its dough is more delicate than wheat dough. Use hot water and handle the dough gently for easier shaping and softer rotis.
For the best results, keep the dough covered while preparing the remaining rotis so it does not dry out.
