🫓 How to Make Browntop Millet Roti

A simple traditional method for soft, rustic millet rotis

1. Prepare the Flour
Take 1 cup Buddha Ratana Browntop Millet Flour in a mixing bowl. Add salt if desired.

2. Add Warm Water
Gradually add warm or hot water while mixing. Browntop Millet flour benefits from proper hydration, helping the dough come together more easily.

3. Prepare the Dough
Mix carefully and allow the mixture to cool slightly until it is comfortable to handle. Knead gently into a soft, smooth dough.

4. Shape the Roti
Divide the dough into small portions. Gently flatten each portion using your palms. Because millet flour is naturally gluten-free, the dough can be more delicate than wheat dough, so handle it gently.

5. Cook on a Tawa
Place the roti on a preheated tawa over medium heat. Cook until the surface begins to change and small brown spots appear.

Flip gently and cook the other side until done. For an authentic roasted flavour, the roti can be finished directly over a flame.

6. Serve Hot
Serve immediately with ghee, curd, dal, sabzi, chutney or your favourite Indian accompaniment.

👨🍳 Cooking Tip

The exact amount of water can vary depending on the flour and desired texture. Add water gradually rather than all at once. For softer rotis, using warm/hot water and working with the dough while it is still warm can help improve handling and texture.

🥞 More Ways to Enjoy Browntop Millet Flour

Browntop Millet Cheela

Prepare a smooth, pourable batter using Browntop Millet Flour, water, salt and your choice of vegetables or herbs. Rest the batter briefly, then cook on a lightly greased hot tawa until cooked on both sides.

Browntop Millet Dosa

Browntop Millet Flour can be used in dosa preparations, often combined with ingredients such as urad dal or other millet/rice ingredients to create a suitable batter. Cook the batter thinly on a hot, lightly greased tawa for a crispier dosa.

Browntop Millet Paratha

Use Browntop Millet Flour to prepare rustic millet parathas. For easier handling, the flour can be combined with suitable binding ingredients or other flours according to the recipe.

Browntop Millet Pancakes

Combine the flour with milk or water, a suitable sweetener and your preferred pancake ingredients. Cook portions of the batter on a lightly greased hot pan until golden and cooked through.

Kalanamak is a heritage, short-grain variety grown specifically in the Himalayan Terai. Unlike Basmati, it has a distinct dark tip, a nuttier flavour, and a softer texture. It is naturally aged and minimally processed to preserve its unique nutritional profile.
Yes, Kalanamak is known for having a lower Glycemic Index (GI) compared to many standard white rice varieties. This means it digests slower, helping to prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar levels.
A Geographical Indication (GI) tag ensures that the rice is authentically sourced from its native region (Siddharthnagar and surrounding districts in UP). It guarantees you are getting the genuine heritage grain, not a hybrid grown elsewhere.
Rinse the rice thoroughly and soak it for 20-30 minutes before cooking. Use a water-to-rice ratio of about 2:1. Cook on a low simmer until the water is absorbed, then let it rest covered for 5 minutes for the perfect fluffy texture.
Store the rice in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place. Kept away from moisture and direct sunlight, our Kalanamak rice easily maintains its aroma and quality for up to 12 months.
