🍲 How to Cook Buddha Ratana Browntop Millet
Ingredients:
-
1 cup Buddha Ratana Browntop Millet
-
2–2½ cups water
-
Salt, to taste
-
1 tsp ghee or oil, optional
Method:
-
Rinse Thoroughly
Wash the Browntop Millet 2–3 times with clean water to remove surface dust and impurities. -
Soak Before Cooking
Soak for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour for more even cooking and a softer texture. Drain well before cooking. -
Cook the Millet
Add 1 cup Browntop Millet and approximately 2–2½ cups fresh water to a saucepan. Add salt and ghee or oil if desired. -
Bring to a Boil
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. -
Simmer & Cover
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for approximately 20–25 minutes, or until the grains are tender and the water has been absorbed. -
Rest
Turn off the heat and leave covered for approximately 5 minutes. -
Fluff & Serve
Gently fluff with a fork and serve warm, or allow to cool before using in salads and grain bowls.
💡 Cooking Tip
Browntop Millet can have a firmer grain character than some other millets, so soaking before cooking is recommended for a softer, more evenly cooked result.
Water absorption can vary depending on the batch and cooking method. For a softer preparation such as khichdi or porridge, simply increase the amount of water and cook until the desired consistency is reached.
