🍲 How to Cook Buddha Ratana Barnyard Millet
Ingredients:
-
1 cup Buddha Ratana Barnyard Millet
-
2–2½ cups water
-
Salt, to taste
-
1 tsp ghee or oil, optional
Method:
-
Rinse Thoroughly
Wash the Barnyard Millet 2–3 times with clean water to remove surface dust and impurities. -
Soak (Optional)
Soak for approximately 20–30 minutes for more even cooking and a softer texture. Drain well before cooking. -
Cook the Millet
Add 1 cup Barnyard Millet and approximately 2–2½ cups fresh water to a saucepan. Add salt and ghee or oil if desired. -
Bring to a Boil
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. -
Simmer & Cover
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for approximately 15–20 minutes, or until the millet is tender and the water has been absorbed. -
Rest
Turn off the heat and leave covered for approximately 5 minutes. -
Fluff & Serve
Gently fluff with a fork and serve warm, or cool before using in salads and grain bowls.
💡 Cooking Tip
For light and fluffy Barnyard Millet, rinse well and avoid excessive stirring while cooking. Water absorption can vary slightly depending on the batch and cooking method, so adjust the water according to your preferred texture.
For a softer preparation such as khichdi or porridge, add more water and cook until the desired consistency is reached.
